A Fresh Approach to East Bay Real Estate

Etna in the Elmwood

Etna Street is one of those great Berkeley streets—beautiful Julia Morgan Craftsman homes interspersed with multi-unit residences, pedestrian-friendly with the diversity of residents only found in a top university town.  This is exactly the spot that the producers of TV’s Parenthood—supposedly set in Berkeley—should have chosen as their backdrop.  If only they had a Berkeleyan on their writing team, but never mind…

2627 Etna Street is poised between the UC Berkeley campus, to the north, and the heart of the Elmwood district to the south in a picturesque neighborhood where amenities abound and you can leave your car behind.  Right around the corner  you can grab a coffee at Sack’s Coffee House, have your hair styled at Hermosa Salon or pick up last-minute items at Derby Food Center.

A few blocks further along College Avenue is the Elmwood’s thriving shopping district, home to endless boutique clothing and gift shops, outdoor cafes and restaurants.  Here in the Elmwood you’ll find the recently expanded and locally-owned independent bookstore, Mrs. Dalloway’s.  Other businesses new to the area are Vintage Wine Shop, Lululemon Athletica, Label’s, the Dailey Method, Ici ice cream, Summer Kitchen and Goorin Bros Hats.

But let’s not forget the venerable establishments, the ones that continue to be treasures.  Just off Ashby Avenue the area has its own branch of the Berkeley Library, housed in a picturesque old Tudor building.  The neighborhood also has its very own movie house—the historic Elmwood Rialto Cinema—and the beautiful Julia Morgan Center for the Arts which brings a variety of productions to town.

If you can’t find what you need nearby, take a short trip down College Avenue to Oakland’s Rockridge neighborhood.  For recreation, vibrant Willard Park has everything from a tot playground to tennis courts and attracts sunlovers of all ages seven days a week.  For some real hiking, head but a few blocks east to Claremont Canyon Regional Preserve.

On Etna Street you are only 5 blocks from UC Berkeley, a mile from Downtown Berkeley and BART, and equally convenient to Ashby and Rockridge BART with easy access along Ashby Avenue to Highways 13, 24, 580, 80, and all points beyond!   But we’d bet you’ll be rushing home every day!
